SS 304 — The Most Versatile Stainless Steel
Stainless Steel 304 is the most widely produced and consumed grade of stainless steel globally, accounting for approximately 50% of all stainless steel production. Its combination of corrosion resistance, formability, weldability and hygienic cleanability makes it the default choice for food processing equipment, pharmaceutical manufacturing, chemical processing, architectural features and domestic appliances.
The 18-8 designation (18% Cr, 8% Ni) is commonly used to describe standard 304 stainless. The low-carbon variant 304L (max 0.03% C vs 0.08% for 304) is preferred for welded fabrications where sensitisation must be avoided to maintain corrosion resistance in the heat-affected zone.
Jindal Stainless — India's Stainless Steel Leader
Jindal Stainless Limited is India's largest stainless steel manufacturer, operating integrated cold rolling facilities at Hisar (Haryana) and Jajpur (Odisha). JSL produces the full range of austenitic, ferritic and duplex stainless steel grades to international standards, exporting to over 50 countries.
Jindal Stainless's production quality — consistent chemistry, tight thickness tolerances and uniform surface finish — is recognised globally, with their material accepted by major food equipment OEMs, pharmaceutical plant builders and architectural specification engineers worldwide.
Surface Finishes
2B — Standard cold-rolled, annealed and pickled finish. Smooth, reflective but not mirror-like. Used for food vessels, tanks, general fabrication — the most widely specified finish globally.
BA (Bright Annealed) — Bright mirror-like finish produced by annealing in controlled atmosphere. For decorative and high-hygiene applications.
No. 4 (Brushed) — Directional brush finish with 150-180 grit. For kitchen equipment, handrails, elevator panels — most common decorative finish.
No. 8 (Mirror) — Highly reflective mirror finish. For architectural cladding, decorative panels, reflectors.
