Sona Masoori Rice Export from India

Sona Masoori (also spelled Sona Masuri) is a medium-grain, lightweight rice variety that is widely consumed across India and has gained significant popularity in international markets — particularly among Indian diaspora communities and health-conscious consumers globally.

Unlike long-grain basmati rice, Sona Masoori has a shorter, medium-length grain with a slightly sticky texture when cooked. It is significantly lower in starch and calories compared to other non-basmati varieties, making it a preferred everyday rice for households and restaurants. It cooks quickly, absorbs flavours well and is ideal for a wide range of preparations including steamed rice, pulao, fried rice, idli and dosa batter.

Raw (Brown) Sona Masoori — Minimally processed, retaining the bran layer. Growing demand from health food and organic product segments.

White (Milled) Sona Masoori — Fully milled and polished. The standard export grade consumed across all markets. Available in 5% broken and 25% broken specifications.

Parboiled (Steam) Sona Masoori — Parboiling process gelatinises the starch, improving nutritional retention and shelf life. Preferred in certain Middle Eastern and African markets.

All grades are available in standard 25kg and 50kg PP woven bags, or in custom retail packaging configurations for private label buyers.

Sona Masoori rice has strong and growing export demand in the USA, Canada, UK, Australia and Gulf countries — primarily driven by the large Indian diaspora in these markets. It is also gaining traction in Southeast Asian markets as a cost-effective alternative to locally grown medium-grain varieties.

The growing interest in lower-glycaemic rice options has also opened institutional and food service channels in Europe and North America, where Sona Masoori's lower starch profile compared to other rice varieties is a key selling point.

Every shipment includes: Certificate of Analysis (moisture, broken percentage, milling degree, foreign matter, pesticide residue), Phytosanitary Certificate (issued by Plant Quarantine authority), APEDA Registration Certificate, Fumigation Certificate (where required), Halal Certificate, Certificate of Origin, Commercial Invoice and Bill of Lading.
