India is consistently among the world's top three sesame seed exporters alongside Ethiopia and Tanzania. Gujarat is India's primary sesame growing and processing state — the 'Gir' variety produces the premium white hulled product preferred by Japanese, Korean and European buyers for food applications.
Hulled white sesame is produced by soaking whole sesame seeds, mechanically removing the outer seed coat (hull) and drying the resulting white seed. Machine hulling produces consistent quality with significantly lower foreign material compared to hand-processed origins.
Salmonella Testing — Critical for All Markets
Salmonella contamination is the primary food safety concern for sesame seeds globally. Following multiple EU market recalls due to sesame Salmonella contamination, testing requirements have intensified.
