Heavy plate serves structural and industrial applications that require greater thickness and rigidity than sheet or coil products can provide. Key market sectors for Indian steel plate exports include:

Structural Fabrication — Base plates, gussets, column caps, bridge components, crane girders and machinery frames.

Pressure Vessels — Storage tanks, process vessels, heat exchangers and boilers using IS 2002 or ASME SA-516 Grade 70 normalised plate.

Shipbuilding — Hull plating, decking, bulkheads and structural members using ABS, DNV or Lloyd's Register certified plate.

Construction Equipment — Boom and arm sections for excavators, loader buckets, crane jibs and agricultural equipment.

Beyond standard structural grades, India's major mills produce higher-strength and specialty plates: E350/E410 high-strength structural plate for crane structures, offshore platforms and heavy transport equipment. Plates are available as-rolled standard mill dimensions or cut to customer-specified dimensions by plasma, flame, laser or waterjet cutting. Shot blasting and primer coating (SA 2.5 surface preparation with zinc or epoxy primer) is available from Indian steel service centres for immediate use on arrival without further surface preparation.
