India's Steel Industry
India is the world's second-largest steel producer, manufacturing 120+ million tonnes annually. SAIL, JSW Steel and Tata Steel are the three dominant integrated producers, operating blast furnaces with capacities exceeding 5 million tonnes per annum. Their hot rolling mills produce world-class HR coils meeting IS, ASTM, EN and JIS standards with full Mill Test Certificates traceable to heat numbers.
Indian HR coils are exported to construction markets in the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Africa and South Asia where they are used in structural fabrication, general engineering, auto body panels, roofing and pipe manufacturing.
Grades and Standards
IS 2062 E250 (Br/Bo/C) — Indian standard for structural steel. Three sub-grades based on impact test requirements. Most widely used for fabrication in India and South Asian markets.
ASTM A36 — American standard equivalent. Fy 250 MPa, Fu 400-500 MPa. For supply to US specification buyers.
S235JR / S275JR / S355JR — European structural steel grades. S355 for heavy structural applications requiring higher yield strength.
API 5L Grade B/X42/X52 — For line pipe applications in oil and gas transmission.
Processing Options
Available as hot-rolled black coil (mill scale surface), pickled and oiled coil (P&O — scale removed by acid pickling, oiled for corrosion protection), or cut-to-length sheets in standard or custom sizes. Slit coils to customer-specified widths are also available with a 7-10 day processing lead time.
Documentation
MTC EN 10204 3.1 (traceable to heat number), Chemical Analysis and Mechanical Property Test Report, Visual and Dimensional Inspection Report, Certificate of Origin, SGS/BV Weight Certificate (vessel lots), Packing List, Commercial Invoice and Bill of Lading.
