India's Electroplating Industry
India has a large and established electroplating industry serving automotive, electrical, fastener, hardware and industrial sectors. Significant regulatory pressure in India over the past decade has driven modernisation — the most competitive plating facilities now operate closed-loop effluent treatment systems meeting ISO 14001 environmental standards, with consistent bath chemistry control and automated plating line management.
Indian plating facilities supply finished plated components to global automotive Tier-1s (fasteners, brackets, connectors), electrical equipment manufacturers (switchgear, terminals, bus bars) and industrial equipment producers (hydraulic fittings, valve bodies, pump components).
Plating Processes in Detail
Zinc Electroplating — Most common process for corrosion protection of steel. Alkaline zinc, acid zinc and zinc-nickel alloy plating available. Passivation options: clear, yellow iridescent, black, olive drab.
Electroless Nickel — Uniform thickness on complex geometries. Excellent corrosion and wear resistance. EN-P (low phosphorus), EN-M (mid), EN-H (high phosphorus) grades for different hardness requirements.
Hard Chrome — Industrial chrome plating for wear resistance on hydraulic rods, rolls and tools. Hardness 68-72 HRC equivalent.
Tin Plating — For electrical connectors, PCB components and food-contact applications.
RoHS and Hexavalent Chromium Compliance
All zinc plating passivation processes use trivalent chromium (Cr3+) chemistry — fully RoHS and ELV compliant, with zero hexavalent chromium. This is a mandatory requirement for automotive and electrical components exported to Europe under the RoHS Directive and the ELV Directive.
Documentation
Plating Certificate (process, thickness, specification), Salt Spray Test Certificate, RoHS Compliance Declaration, REACH SVHC Declaration, Dimensional Inspection Report, Certificate of Origin.
