Black Pepper MG1 Malabar — Export from India

India produces the world's most prized black pepper — Malabar Garbled Grade 1 (MG1) from Kerala and Karnataka. High piperine content (5–7%), consistent sizing and EU MRL compliance make Indian black pepper the benchmark for global spice buyers.

India's Black Pepper Heritage

Black pepper — Piper nigrum — is native to India's Malabar Coast (modern-day Kerala) and has been traded for over 3,000 years. India was historically the sole global supplier, and the Malabar Garbled Grade 1 (MG1) standard remains the international benchmark against which all black pepper origins are measured.

Kerala and Karnataka together produce the majority of India's black pepper, grown on hillside estates in the Western Ghats at elevations of 300–1,500 metres. The combination of altitude, humidity, rainfall and volcanic soil creates the ideal conditions for high piperine content and the complex aromatic profile that distinguishes Indian pepper from competing origins in Vietnam, Brazil and Indonesia.

Grades and Forms Available

MG1 (Malabar Garbled Grade 1) — The premium export grade. Machine cleaned, uniform sizing, minimum 550g/litre bulk density. International buyers specify MG1 for retail, food service and pharmaceutical applications.

MG2 / TGSEB — Standard grades for food manufacturing and industrial applications. Cost-effective alternative to MG1.

Ground Black Pepper — Available in coarse, medium and fine grinds. Mesh sizes 20–100. Moisture max 12%. Volatile oil min 2ml/100g.

Organic Black Pepper — USDA NOP and EU Organic certified from Wayanad and Idukki districts in Kerala.

EU MRL Compliance

European Union buyers face increasingly strict pesticide residue requirements for black pepper. Zenvico Global provides comprehensive EU MRL testing per EC Regulation 396/2005 as standard for all European-bound shipments, covering all relevant pesticide groups including organophosphates, pyrethroids, dithiocarbamates and chlorinated compounds.

Our Kerala and Karnataka supply chain prioritises farms with documented IPM (Integrated Pest Management) practices, significantly reducing pesticide residue risk at source rather than relying solely on post-harvest testing.

Documentation

Every black pepper export includes: Spices Board of India OSCS Quality Certificate, Certificate of Analysis (piperine, bulk density, moisture, volatile oil, pesticide screen), Phytosanitary Certificate, EU MRL test report (European destinations), Certificate of Origin (FIEO), Fumigation Certificate, Commercial Invoice, Packing List and Bill of Lading.
